Justin Bieber Pleads Not Guilty

Contract Court records showed that Justin Bieber`s lawyer filed a not guilty plea in Miami-Dade County. Bieber had an arraignment scheduled on February 14, 2014. However, the Florida law does not require the teenager to be there.

How courts handled his case
In a previous post, we mentioned immigration concerns as one of the ramifications of Bieber’s alleged misdemeanor. Time has also published an article related to this. The article explained why Bieber could not be deported just yet. We can say that the young celebrity is indeed lucky to have knowledgeable attorneys guiding him through his case. His case, however, cannot be compared to undocumented immigrants. This is because law enforcement authorities are handling Bieber’s case differently.

Bieber’s case
Bieber was charged with DUI, resisting without violence and driving with an expired driver’s license in Florida. These charges fall under first-degree misdemeanor and are not sufficient enough for deportation. According to the federal law, only violent crimes and those sentences longer than one year can trigger an immigrant’s visa status to be re-evaluated. The Canadian teen pop singer resides here in U.S. on an O-1 visa, which is granted to people with “extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business or athletics.”

I have read comments and heard some say that news agencies wouldn`t have bothered picking up the story if the person involved in a DUI case is an ordinary citizen or immigrant. I could see where they were coming from. I may not know much about his music and life but due processes should be followed before we can see where the charges he’s facing will take him.

As a Kentucky Accident Attorney, I am very concerned about the safety of our children. Please remind your teenage drivers or anyone you know that drunk driving is never safe. Luckily, no one was injured in Justin Bieber’s car accident, and it could have been much worse. Drunk driving and distracted driving are some of the highest causes of car accidents. Remember to never drink and drive and put your cell phones away. This will keep your eyes on the road and help keep you out of accidents.
