Deer collisions are most likely to occur from October to December, with November topping the list due to the hunting and migrating season. According to the Kentucky State Police, a total of 2,766 deer collisions were recorded in 2013 and these incidents resulted to 132 injuries and zero deaths.
According to State Farm, deer collisions have an average cost per claim of $4,135 in 2014. In Kentucky in 2013, approximately $21.2 million in deer collision claims were filed with Kentucky Farm Bureau. Annually, insurance claims can rise up to as much as $4.6 billion.

●Be sure to check your car. Check your seatbelts and headlights; you need every piece of equipment working. Don’t forget to buckle up.
●Be aware of deer crossing signs. Heed the warning, drive slow, and keep your eyes on the road.
●Note the time deer are most likely out. You are more likely to come across deer from evening to early morning. If you’re planning to travel around these times, be sure to keep in mind that you’ll not be alone on the road.
●Increase your range of vision. Use your high-beam headlights to increase road visibility at night.
●Don’t swerve. When you see a deer, don’t swerve. Slow down and brake but stay in your lane. Swerving may only confuse the deer and you run the risk of hitting another vehicle or a tree.
