Why is it so deadly?
According to Fox Business, the Fourth of July has been ranked the deadliest holiday on our nation’s roads. There are almost 500 automobile fatalities through the three day time period, July 4-6. In fact, more than 50% of those fatalities had to do with alcohol impaired driving. In a recent study, most people thought that New Year’s Day would come up on top for more deaths on the roads. It turns out that New Year’s Day came in second, right behind the Fourth of July. Nobody thinks of the Fourth as a deadly holiday because we are all so jazzed up on American pride. I feel that is why people don’t think about driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Fireworks
Another reason the Fourth is so deadly is because of all the fireworks. Drivers will often slow down and look at fireworks as they go down the road. They may even try to take a picture of the fireworks from their car. This is both dangerous and deadly. Taking your eyes off the road for even a few seconds can cause you to drift into the other lane or cause you to go off the road. Please always keep both hands on your steering wheel and both eyes on the road. This will allow you to react better to unexpected situations.
