Teen Killed in Louisville Crash Involving UPS Truck

Tragically, a teenager died and another person was critically injured in a Louisville crash involving a UPS delivery truck in December 2013. Kendall Daub, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene. Daub was a passenger in a black Chevrolet Impala. According to the police, Daub’s vehicle was traveling east on Kenton Street when they ran a stop sign and crashed into a delivery truck as it headed south on Third Street. Both drivers were injured. They were taken to University of Louisville Hospital. The Impala’s driver suffered life-threatening injuries while the truck driver had non-life threatening injuries. Police added that the truck driver was wearing a seat belt but no one in the Impala was wearing one.

Statistics

• Seat belt use increased in 2012. It reached 86%, a 2% increase from 2011.
• Seat belt use remained higher in states where the seat belt law is a “primary” or standard enforcement law.
• In a survey conducted by University of Kentucky, Kentucky Transportation Center, the level of the safety belt usage in 2013 was the highest since the start of surveys in 1982. This is attributed to the enactment and enforcement of safety belt laws and increased education.
• Seat belts, when worn correctly, reduce the risk of fatal injury to front seat occupants by 45% and by 60% in pickup trucks, SUVs and minivans.
