Police Will Be Patrolling Kentucky Roads This Holiday Season

Car Accident This holiday season, Kentucky State Police will be implementing Operation R.A.I.D. (Remove Aggressive, Impaired and Distracted drivers from Kentucky Roadways). Police forces will focus on specific areas. They will also be using a unique enforcement plan, so make sure you are following the law!

Dangerous time to drive
Thanksgiving and the holiday season are among the deadliest times to drive. To help keep you safe, you need to pay attention to your driving behavior. While most drivers are courteous towards other drivers, unfortunately, some are not. If you run into an aggressive driver, remember to be the better driver. Do not taunt the person and try to remain calm yourself. This can be hard, especially if the other driver did something rude, but take a few deep breaths and continue to drive safely.

Distracted driving statistics
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over nine people are killed and more than 1,153 are injured each day in distracted driving-related crashes. As per the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, driver inattention is the leading factor in most near crashes as well as crashes. Of all these crash incidents recorded nationwide, it was found that 65% of near crashes and almost 80% of crashes involved some form of driver inattention within three seconds before the crash occurred. That’s alarmingly high, and that’s why it’s so important to keep your eyes on the road. When you focus on the road, you will be able to better react to any sudden situation, and hopefully avoid an incident.

As a Kentucky Personal Injury Attorney, I know that with the colder temperatures, snow and ice in our forecast and more traffic on the roads, we need to focus on the road. That’s why I support Operation R.A.I.D. because it will help keep our roads safe. Remember that police are on the lookout for aggressive, impaired and distracted drivers this holiday season. Try to stay calm while driving, avoid road rage, never drink and drive and put away distractions (like cell phones). If a police officer sees you doing any of these activities, they will pull you over.
