KSP To Target Distracted Drivers In Their Latest Campaign

Kentucky State Police move to weed out distracted drivers from roads to save lives. Tagged as Operation R.A.I.D (Remove Aggressive, Impaired and Distracted drivers from Kentucky roadways), this enforcement campaign was developed by KSP commanders to target driving behaviors that cause the most crashes in Kentucky. The campaign will run throughout 2015 and will be conducted in different months. In January, it ran through January 11-24. Police are crack down distracted driving.

Operation R.A.I.D.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Jack Miniard, KSP Director of Operations, this campaign is unique as it follows the same goal state-wide. However, for each post, a different operational plan will be followed depending on the crash activity in the area. It will also be a combination of enforcement and educational strategy, so expect to see more enforcement in crash corridors, as well as more roving patrols and safety checkpoints. The Kentucky State Police is working with the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety with the goal to reduce casualties on Kentucky highways.

Distracted Driving Statistics
In 2011, 144 people died in 49,821 crashes recorded in Kentucky. In all those crashes, distraction was cited as a factor. Distracted driving is a lot more serious than we think it is. Chances are every one of us has been guilty of this in one way or another. The problem is, most of the time, people only truly understand how grave the situation is once something unfortunate happens to them. No one wants their loved ones to get hurt. We don’t need to experience this to realize that distracted driving is dangerous.
