Still looking for a fun way to celebrate this year’s Memorial Day with your family? Louisville is holding a Hike, Bike and Paddle Event on May 26, 2014 at the Waterfront Park. You might want to bring the kids over and take part in this event. It’s a great opportunity to meet people and educate your kids on the importance of keeping a healthy and green lifestyle.
What will be there
Nutritional snacks will be offered and there will be activities for kids. There will also be information booths around if you have any questions. There will also be free river tours as well as yoga, tai chi, zumba and pickleballs demonstrations. You can choose which ones to join depending on your group’s preferences. To add to that, your participation can earn you free passes to the Kentucky Reggae Festival, this will also take place on Memorial Day but at the Water Tower. Events like this are important ways to learn about safety and to learn about how to prevent accidents.
Safety and convenience are of utmost importance to the event organizers. They will focus on that so the only thing you will have to do is enjoy the day. Paddlers who wish to complete only the three-mile course will be provided a free shuttle back to the Great Lawn, courtesy of TARC. Hikers are allowed to bring their dogs along, but pets should be on leash and the owner is responsible for picking up their pet’s waste. Cyclists will be assisted by members of the Louisville Bicycle Club and the Louisville Metro Police. There will be plenty of water stations, but it’s still a good idea to bring your own water bottle too.
The Hike, Bike and Paddle event was started in 2005 as part of the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement by former Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson. It is held on the Monday of Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. The tradition continues to live on with the current Mayor Greg Fischer’s full support. This year’s program is sponsored by Subway Restaurant, with presenting sponsors, Coca-Cola, Norton Healthcare and Thornton’s.
As a Kentucky Accident Attorney, I encourage you to join this event. It’s a great activity for the whole family. The Hike, Bike and Paddle event is a great excuse to get to spend time outside with your family, get some exercise and get to meet new people.
