Bugaboo Issued Recall of Another Line of Baby Strollers

On January 15, 2013, Bugaboo announced a recall on Bugaboo Cameleon3 and Bugaboo Donkey model strollers due to fall and choking hazards. Just two months after, another line of Bugaboo baby strollers with defective carrying handle was recalled. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Bugaboo recalled about 9,200 Cameleon3 strollers in the U.S. and 960 in Canada. The stroller’s carrying handle can break and detach, thus posing a fall hazard. Bugaboo has received 16 reports of carry handles breaking, but no injuries have been reported.

What strollers are included in this recall?
Strollers included in the recall are those having serial numbers from 19010 11153 00001 to 19010 51248 00215. The serial numbers are printed on a horizontal bar of the stroller’s chassis below the seat while the words “Bugaboo” and “Cameleon3” appear on a fabric tag on the side of the sun canopy. The Bugaboo Cameleon3 stroller has an aluminum and plastic frame with rubberized wheels, a removable seat and bassinet, a removable “U” shaped carry handle, an under-the-seat storage bag and a sun canopy. Bugaboo Cameleon3 strollers were manufactured in China and imported by Bugaboo Americas, of El Segundo, California. The strollers were sold at Buy Buy Baby, Toys “R” Us, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bugaboo.com and other baby product stores nationwide and online retailers from September 2012 to March 2013 for between $889 and $1,600.

What should you do if you own this product?
Owners of the recalled strollers are advised to immediately remove the carry handle from the bassinet or seat and contact Bugaboo for a free replacement handle. The good news is that consumers can still use the seat or bassinet when attached to the chassis. However, the seat bassinet should not be separated from the chassis.
