Ten Fatalities Occur in One Week on Kentucky Roads
Kentucky State Police released preliminary statistics about crashes and fatalities that occurred in the 2nd week of March 2011 (March 7-March 13) that shows ten people had lost their lives on Kentucky roadways in ten separate crashes. Crash data is generated from the Kentucky Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).
Seven of the fatalities happened in Grayson, Harrison, Nelson, Oldham, Spencer and Warren counties wherein it involved motor vehicles accidents. It was found out that three of the victims were not wearing seatbelts. There are other two crashes which were surmised the use of alcohol. A crash that came about in Graves County was a motorcycle accident. There were two pedestrian accidents that took place in Hart and Jefferson County.
114 people have died on Kentucky roadways from the start 2011 through March 13 as shown in the preliminary statistics. This is 8 fatalities less as compared for the same time period in 2010. Ninety one deaths were caused by motor vehicle accidents and fifty-five of those deaths were because of not wearing seat belts. There were three deaths from motorcycle crashes and one that involved an ATV wherein victims were not wearing helmets. Fifteen deaths were because of pedestrian accidents.
