Giant Bicycle Inc. Recalls Bicycles
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Giant Bicycle, Inc. announced a recall of two bicycle models. About 900 of the 2012 Model Year Giant Defy Advanced and Avail Advanced Bicycles are included in the recall.
The reason for the recall is that the fork can crack that may pose a fall hazard to riders. The fork is the part of the bicycle that holds the front wheel and allows the rider to balance and steer. The recall includes all 2012 model year men’s Giant Defy Advanced 0, 1 and 2 model bicycles and the women’s Giant Avail Advanced 0, 1 and 2 model bicycles. These products come in various colors and sizes. The product was manufactured in Taiwan. The recalled products were sold for between $3,000 and $4,550 by Authorized Giant Bicycle dealers nationwide from August 2011 through November 2011.
If you or someone you knew have purchased this recalled bicycle, you must stop riding the bicycle and directly contact any authorized Giant Bicycle Dealer for a free inspection and replacement of the fork. You may contact Giant Bicycle toll-free at (866) 458-2555 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or you may check their website at www.giant-bicycles.com.
Serious injuries can happen in a split second on a bike. Please be safe and make sure your bike is in proper shape for riding.
