The day before Christmas Eve was a dangerous time on Jefferson County roads. In the early afternoon a light rain began to fall, when it came in contact with the ground, which was still below freezing, the rain immediately iced up. There were several accidents reported between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
In eastern Jefferson County on Taylorsville Lake Road a GM pickup truck traveling south lost control and slid into northbound traffic. It was hit by a Dodge pickup. The driver of the GM died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was injured and taken to University Hospital. A third car hit the dodge but none of the occupants suffered any injuries.
At close to the same time another accident on the Gene Snyder Freeway at the Taylorsville Road exit caused several injuries. The accident started when a person was being treated after an accident. Another vehicle reportedly lost control and hit the police car. The injured were listed as the person involved in the original accident, an EMS worker and a firefighter. None of the injuries were classified as life-threatening.
