The Schafer Law Office and American Lawyer Academy Promote Safe Driving

September 15, 2010 The Schafer Law Office, a Louisville, Kentucky personal injury law firm, is pleased to announce that it is the Central Regional Sponsor of the 2010-2011 American Lawyer Academy (ALA) Viral Video Scholarship Contest. The Central Region includes Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Arkansas. The scholarship program is dedicated to the thousands of accident victims who are injured or killed in motor vehicle collisions each year in the United States and hopes to save lives with a positive viral message. High school and college students nationwide are encouraged to submit their videos promoting safe driving.

“I speak with accident victims on an almost daily basis that have been seriously injured by distracted or drunk drivers.” remarks attorney Mike Schafer. “We all know how dangerous texting while driving is and drinking and driving are yet there are motor vehicle accidents that happen daily because of these practices.”

According to Kentucky State Police reports there have been 501 fatalities on Kentucky roads so far this year. The total of fatal accidents on the road in 2009 was 548 which are up from 2008. In 2008 there were 539.

Some of the most viewed videos on the various video-sharing websites by teens and young adults are the ones produced by their peers. The Schafer Law Office believes the number of young people this safe driving message reaches and the effectiveness of the message will exceed traditional public awareness messages.

The American Lawyer Academy Viral Video Scholarship Contest offers $25,000 in scholarships toward college tuition at a recognized academic institution. Each regional winner will be awarded $1,500 and be entered into the national contest. The national contest winners will be awarded $3,000 for second place and $10,000 for first place.
