Woman Killed and Toddler Injured on Interstate 64

Monday night a 21-year-old woman identified as Christina Hughes was killed on I-64 near the Watterson Expressway, in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.  She was traveling west on I-64 when she lost control of her car, the car then overturned. Ms Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene.  Also in the car was a three year old child who was transported to Kosair Children’s Hospital.  The child’s condition has not been released.  An investigation is pending but it can be noted that police are looking at whether speed may have been a factor in this fatal accident.  It has not been reported as to whether Ms. Hughes was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident or what kind of restraints the child may have been in at the time of the accident.

Interstates are dangerous places.  You have several vehicles weighing tons traveling at speeds of 55 miles per hour and usually faster than that.  Automobile accidents are devastating and even more so when someone has lost their life.  Having represented families who have lost a loved ones in an vehicular fatalities I am always reminded that as much as you can control what you do on the highway you have no control of what others do.  The best route is to exercise every safety measure available to you. Buckle up, obey the traffic rules and be alert to other drivers.
