Two Young Girls Killed in Hit and Run

A summer afternoon ended yesterday in tragedy for two families.  Two young girls were struck and killed as they crossed the street in front of McDonald’s located at 301 E. Warnock Street in Louisville, KY.  The two girls have been identified as 4-year-old Riley Jane Lawrence and 5-year-old Claudia Wadlington.  Also injured was Claudia’s mother, Angie Wadlington.

The accident occurred during what seemed to be a routine traffic stop.  A Louisville Metro Police officer had attempted to stop a blue Pontiac Grand Am.  As the officer was approaching the Grand Am on foot when the driver of the blue Grand Am appeared to have punched the gas taking off at a high rate of speed.  At that point the officer saw the two girls in the street, stopped and tried to administer first aid to them.  Both girls were in the crosswalk when they were fatally struck.

Unfortunately 5-year-old Claudia died at the scene and 4-year-old Riley was pronounced dead at Kosair Children’s Hospital.  It is reported that the mother, Ms. Wadlington, had suffered broken bones from the incident and was taken to University Hospital.  The girls had just finished a swimming lesson and had stopped in McDonald’s right before the accident.

The blue Grand Am was found abandoned about eight blocks from the accident yesterday evening.  Metro police arrested a male suspect around eight p.m. who has been identified today as 26 year-old Kenielle D. Finch.  Finch has been charged with two counts of murder, one count of assault, fleeing and evading police and tampering with physical evidence.  According to Metro Police there were three outstanding bench warrants from Jefferson Circuit Court for Finch.  These warrants are for several crimes including tampering with physical evidence, felon in possession of a handgun, leaving the scene of an accident, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, being a persistent felony offender, and possession of a controlled substance.

This appears to explain why this man was fleeing from the police.  Finch’s actions of utter irresponsibility have devastated two families..The police investigation is still on-going. For more information on Louisville car accident attorney Mike Schafer go to www.mikeschaferlaw.com
