In an accident on U.S. 421 Jose Luis Benitez of Milton, Ky was killed and three other were injured. The accident occurred when Herberto Rodriguez was driving northbound on U.S. and attempted a left turn into a parking lot. A 2000 GMC pickup was traveling southbound on the same road and was not able to avoid striking Rodriguez’s car on the passenger side.
Benitez was in the passenger side of the back seat at the time of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other passengers in Rodriguez’s car, Julio Hernandez, age 34, and Sixto Hernandez, age 20 sustained minor injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, Lori Howdyshell of Milton, also received minor injuries.
Rodriguez was treated for minor injuries at Carroll County Memorial Hospital then transported to the Carroll County Regional Detention Center where he was charged with driving under the influence as well as manslaughter. Kentucky State Police reported that none of the victims in Rodriguez’s were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
