Several Deaths on Kentucky Roadways End July and Start August

Kentucky State Police have reported the 16 people have died on Kentucky roads with in the week of July 28th and August 3rd of 2008. The fatalities involving motor vehicles occurred in Allen, Bath, Boone, Christian, Floyd, Franklin, Grant, Graves, Jefferson, and Magoffin counties. There were two fatalities involving all-terrain-vehicles (ATVs). These accidents were in Perry and Pike counties. A motorcycle crash occurred in Calloway County and a pedestrian was killed in Madison County.

Interesting and frightening statistics have been indicated with the fatalities mentioned. Of the twelve fatalities involving motor vehicles nine of the victims were not wearing seatbelts. In three of the crashes use of alcohol was a suspected factor. In both ATV fatalities neither victim was wearing a helmet and in one of them alcohol was again a suspected factor. In the motorcycle crash the victim of the was not wearing a helmet. When the pedestrian that was struck in Madison County alcohol was again a suspected factor.

According to the Kentucky State Police so far this year there have been 441 fatalities on the roads of Kentucky. This is 68 fewer than this time last year. This is a good sign. An extremely troublesome statistic is that of the 340 motor vehicle fatalities, 209 of the victims were NOT wearing seatbelts. Of the 50 motorcycle fatalities 30 were NOT wearing helmets. Of the 13 ATV fatalities 12 were NOT wearing helmets. Also a scary statistic is that there have been a total of 85 fatalities in Kentucky that were the result of suspected alcohol use.

Common sense and good practices can save your life. Wear your seatbelt. If on a motorcycle or ATV, wear a helmet. Never drink and drive. For more information on Louisville, Ky attorney go to www.mikeschaferlaw.com.
