74 year old Mary O'Connor was hit by a man driving a Mercedes while she was retrieving her mail from her mailbox. The police said the fatal accident happened at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday April 9, 2011 in the 3600 block of Trail Ridge Road in eastern Jefferson Country, Louisville, Kentucky.
The Louisville Metro Police Department investigated the case and their spokesperson stated driver inattention as the cause. The man driving the Mercedes said that he looked away briefly before the crash, looked back and saw Ms. O'Connor but was unable to avoid hitting her. Investigators also said that drugs and alcohol were not suspected and they do not expect to file charges.
As reported, by the Police, Ms. O'Connor died at University Hospital from multiple blunt force trauma injuries. Pearson's Funeral Home was handling the funeral arrangements.
Ms. O'Connor was a wife, mother and grandmother. Her family describes her as an amazing, unique woman who had a strong connection to her faith and family. She was involved in many activities in the community. Her husband Bob O'Connor stated that her death is not just a loss to their family but also a loss to the community. She will be missed by her family and the community.
