A tragic accident happened late Friday night, March 11, at 5400 block of the New Cut Road. A man identified as Joseph Wayne Willis, 33 years old, of the 300 block of N. 29th St., was crossing the street west to east when a red pickup truck hit him according to the Louisville Metro Police Department. Witnesses of the accident said that the driver of the truck turned around and came back, but before it returned a white car - possibly a Pontiac Grand Am - hit him the second time. The driver of the white car didn't even bother to stop or return but rather continued driving.
Willis was brought to the University Hospital and was pronounced dead at 12:18 a.m. on Saturday due to blunt force injuries.
The Police said that Willis was wearing dark clothes and was not crossing at an intersection or crosswalk. The driver of the red truck also told the Police that he turned around to find out what happened because he knew he had hit something.
It seems that the driver wasn't able to notice Willis when he was crossing. It's just sad that the driver of the white car who had hit him the second time was not responsible of his act. The LMPD traffic unit is still investigating and in search of the driver of the hit and run white car. Anyone with information can call the anonymous tip line at 574-LMPD.
