Leonard Lay, 77-year-old of Big Clifty, Kentucky was killed when his blue Ford Taurus slammed into a garage in southwest Louisville on April 4, 2011. The house was owned by Sharon Comstock. She said that the car hit a tree then her garage which was moved off from its foundation. She was making the bed and heard a crash that shook her house. After the crash, she watched as an off-duty EMT helped Leonard Lay who actually died at the scene.
According to a Metro Police, Lay went on a stop sign at Pages and Devonshire and was struck by a woman driving a white Lincoln. She had the right of way and kept going wherein her Lincoln crashed into the blue Ford Taurus of Lay. The woman which is said to be in her 80's was brought to University Hospital and in very critical condition having multiple injuries that are life threatening as said by LMPD spokeswoman, Officer Carey Klain.
From Sharon Comstock statement, drivers' inattention is often the problem in her neighborhood. Adding to that is their speed that reached 45 or 50 even in the morning which is very dangerous for the children that are usually going to school without realizing that the speed limit on that area was only 35.
To make our Kentucky roads safer and help prevent fatal car accidents, let us all bear in mind to follow such simple road rules in order to avoid incidents like these. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Lay family and the woman involved in the accident.
