Late Tuesday night, November 25th, on the Gene Snyder Freeway, close to the Preston Highway exit, a one car crash claimed the life of one and injured three other passengers in the car. At approximately 11:45 p.m. a Chevrolet heading westbound lost control and left the road. It seems that speed was a factor in the crash but alcohol was not.
The driver as well as all of the passengers were taken to the hospital where 34-year-old Ernesto Martinez-Romirez was pronounced dead. The other injuries were not life threatening. Romirez was a passenger in the back seat and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
This particular stretch of the Gene Snyder has
cable barriers in place and according to police when the car lost control it struck the barrier preventing a crossover accident. There have been several
fatal accidents this year involving cars crossing over the median into oncoming traffic so in certain areas cable barriers have been put up in an effort to prevent potentially horrible accidents.
