It has been reported that in the early morning hours of July 25, 2008 Tommy Taylor died on the Watterson Expressway in Jefferson County, KY. He was traveling from Interstate 64 headingtoward Interstate 264. Witnesses say the motorcycle was approaching the ramp at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle then merged onto West I-264 and ran into the the back of a Ford Taurus. Mr. Taylor was thrown from his motorcycle and suffered multiple blunt-force injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The two people in the Taurus were not injured in the accident. It should also be noted that Mr. Taylor was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
This accident is another in many
motorcycle accidents that have occurred this summer on Kentucky roadways. In Jefferson County, KY earlier in July David Mears was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and crossed over into oncoming traffic. He was speeding and having a hard time negotiating the turn when he hit a pick up truck head on. Mr. Mears died at the scene as a result of multiple blunt force injuries.
July 18, 2008 Russ Bellomy was killed in Ashland, KY when the motorcycle he was driving was struck by a pick up truck. The driver of the pick up, 21-year-old Billy Barker was intoxicated when he crossed over into oncoming traffic and hit Bellomy's motorcycle. Also critically injured in the accident was Bellomy's 12-year-old grandson. Barker has since been indicted for the murder of Bellomy.
The same week end Shawn David Allen was killed in Pikeville, KY when the motorcycle he was driving wrecked. The Pikeville police believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. The passenger with Allen was injured and had to be airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.
Motorcycles can be fun and exciting but can also be very deadly if extreme caution is not taken when riding. When injured, the pain can be excrutiating and financially devastating. When driving a car or truck, take extra caution and be aware of motorcycles. When driving a motorcycle also be aware of other vehicles and take precautions to protect yourself, wear a helmet.
