An officer from the 4th District of the Louisville Metro Police Department was involved in an accident early this morning. As a result of the crash he was taken to University Hospital with injuries to his head. It has not been released how critical his injuries are. Nor has his identity been released, that information will be released today. The driver of the other also suffered injuries but were minor and he was not taken for treatment.
The accident happened near Preston and Caldwell Streets, which is in the area known as Smoketown. The officer was reportedly responding to a call involving an individual who had been robbed. The officer was traveling westbound on Caldwell Street when the driver of the other car, which was northbound on Preston Street hit the officer.
An investigation is being conducted by the traffic unit of the Louisville Metro Police Department. It has been indicated that at the time of the accident the police car did not have the lights and siren on.
There is not a traffic light at this particular intersection so extreme caution needs to be observed. As an attorney who has handled several automobile accident cases it has become apparent to me that many could have been prevented with a bit more caution.
