Distracted Driver May Have Caused Kentucky Fatal Truck Accident –Kentucky Fatal Accident Attorney
DATE: March 26, 2010
LOCATION: Hart County Kentucky
TYPE: The horrific accident on I-65 that took the lives of may have been caused by the truck driver speeding and on his cell phone.
We all remember the horrible accident about a month ago when a semi truck crossed the median on I-65 in central Kentucky killing not only himself but ten occupants in another vehicle. The other vehicle was a van with a family traveling to Iowa for a wedding. The only two survivors were two young boys.
In an accident by the Kentucky State Police obtained this week by The Courier-Journal indicates that not only was the driver of the truck, Kenneth E. Laymon, speeding but was also on a cell phone at the time of the accident. In this report another truck driver who saw the accident claims the driver was traveling at 80 miles per hour. The speed limit on this stretch of I-65 is 70 miles per hour.
An earlier report indicated that Mr. Laymon had fallen asleep when the crash occurred but the recent report by the state police but the cellular report shows that Mr. Laymon had been sending and receiving calls up to the time of the accident. Some studies have shown a remarkable increase, up to four times, in likeliness to crash when drivers are talking on cell phones.
Our condolences continue to go out to all the grieving families and communities suffering of those involved in this tragic accident.
