Kentucky teens injured in a crash
Five Kentucky teenagers, who were on their way home after a Labor Day weekend trip, suffered from multiple injuries after they lost control of their car on I-640 in Knoxville. This accident left one in critical condition. The Knoxville Police Department stated that the 1996 Toyota Camry ran off the interstate, hit a utility pole and flipped several times before landing on its roof. One of the teen passengers was found a hundred feet away from where the vehicle had stopped. It was found that both the driver and the front seat passenger were wearing seat belts, but the three teens in the backseat were not and were thrown out of the car. All five were transported to UT Medical Center.

Safe driving tips for teens
With driving comes great responsibility. Each time you get behind the wheel, you are responsible not only of your safety but for the safety of others as well. Keeping the roads safe is a two-way goal. You cannot expect to reach your destination safely when you’re not doing your part. Parents, please talk to your young drivers at home about the importance of safe driving. Here are some tips you may want to share with your teens:

  1. Always buckle up. Put on your seat belt and make sure that everyone in the car buckles up, too. You should also not carry more passengers than the car is designed to hold.
  2. Carpooling can be dangerous for a young driver. This could lead to driver distraction, which takes the driver’s eyes off the road.
  3. Adjust your headrest so that it supports your head not just your neck.
  4. Control your emotions. Remain calm and focus on driving and on the road. Don’t let aggressive drivers get the best of you. If you encounter an aggressive driver on a highway, try to get into the slow lane so they may pass.
  5. Be very careful when driving through school zones. The speed limit will change at the beginning and end of the school day. Always be mindful of the speed limit and your surroundings.

As a Kentucky Personal Injury Attorney, I know no one wants to be involved in any Kentucky car accident. Unfortunately, we cannot just wish for the traffic accident rate to get better. We need to work this one out, and this goes for both young and adult drivers. Everyone should focus on the road, not drive impaired and obey signs and traffic laws.
