April 24-30, 2011 is National Playground Safety Week
Louisville, Kentucky Child Accident Attorney
Each year, over two hundred thousand children receive emergency treatment for various playground injuries. Ninety percent of those injuries occur on public playgrounds. Home playgrounds can also be dangerous. The National Program for Playground Safety is giving their efforts with the participation of the public to break down the injury statistics and keep children safe no matter where they play.
Few days from now will be the important time to bring out our concern on children's outdoor play environments. The National Playground Safety Week is a time to pledge to use good judgment when playing and a time for gratitude for all the people who gave their full effort on maintaining playgrounds.
The National Program for Playground Safety invites the public to help persuade the governor in every state to declare National Playground Safety Week. A proclamation that needs to be signed by the governor allows the state to show support in the promotion of safe playground environment for children.
It is true that we cannot keep children safe at all times but we need to ensure that we are doing all that we can to keep them safe. The National program for Safety shared the four key elements to stay safe with the acronym SAFE.
S - for supervision. Parents should be vigilant and monitor the equipment they are using and their movement in the play area.
A - for Appropriate Age Equipment. BE sure that your children is using playing equipment appropriate for theirs age to protect them from injury.
F - for fall surfacing. Be mindful of the playground surroundings. Check if the surface cover of the play equipment and put your children on the safest zone.
E - for equipment maintenance. Remember that frequent maintenance of play equipment significantly reduces the chances to be injured by one of the play pieces.
Let us be part of the promotion of this important Playground Safety Week and let us do what it takes to keep our children safe in their playground.
