I has been reported that on August 6th, in the very early morning hours, a 21-year-old LaGrange, Ky man died at the scene of a motor vehicle accident. Robert Asher was traveling south on I-71 when he lost control of his Chevrolet Cavalier, the car left the road and crashed into the median. Mr. Asher was ejected and died at the scene. It has been reported that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
When Mr. Asher’s car lost control and left the road it was fortunately stopped by the
cable barriers preventing it from crossing over into the other lanes of traffic. There have been accidents lately where cars have lost control on a part of the highway that does not have the cable barriers in place. The drivers have crossed over into oncoming traffic with fatal and
devastating results.
Cable barriers were installed in the Louisville, Jefferson County area of Kentucky with the hope that they would save lives by preventing out of control vehicles from crossing into oncoming traffic. In this situation there is virtually no time for a vehicle traveling 70 mph to react to avoid a crash. The cabel barriers appear to have been a wise investment.
This accident happened at around 1:00 a.m. and both directions of I-71 were closed until close to 5:00a.m.
