What are the factors behind the crash on I-65 last February 23, 2011?- Kentucky Fatal Accident Attorney
It has been almost a month now to the day after a FedEx truck collides with SUV killing three in Kentucky, wherein Kentucky State Police released its first official report.
Inattention and driving or following too close were the factors pointed out by the Kentucky State Police that caused the crash on Interstate-65 last February 23, 2011. The crash killed 24-year-old Victor Chacon, 10-year-old Brianna Chacon and 11-year-old Tatyana Alvarez when a FedEx tractor-trailer driver rear-ended the Chacons' Nissan Pathfinder. The family was returning to their home in Chicago from a wedding in Florida.
The report stated that the weather at that time was clear and the road was straight and level as both vehicles were headed north in the right lane of I-65. The driver of FedEx truck, 31-year-old George Grimes Jr. was traveling at a higher speed than the SUV and that he didn't see it in front of him until it was too late hitting the back of the SUV and sent it into a spin to the ditch line where the vehicle overturned. The three who died at the scene were ejected from their seats where two landed in a ditch and one in the roadway.
The other four family members suffered serious injuries including two kids. 2-year-old Yaznylie and 5-year-old Victor were in critical condition with serious brain trauma and broken bones and legs. Their family remains hopeful that those still alive can pull through.
The Chacons' have filed a lawsuit against FedEx saying negligence played a role in the three deaths.
