Sunday night at around 8:45 p.m. on I-71 in Henry County, KY a crash killed four people. The accident happened near Campbellsburg, Ky. The four victims have been identified as 19 year old Ryan Keith Williams, 20 year-old Caitlin Christine Lee, 18 year-old Caitlin R. Currey, and 19 year-old Jackson Scott Harris. All from the Nashville, Tn. area and graduates of East Literature Magnet High School.
Apparently an automobile with the four passengers was on southbound I-71 when they lost control of their vehicle. The car crossed the
median , spun around, and was in the northbound lanes of I-71. The automobile was then facing north when a tractor-trailer which was carrying a load of steel beams was struck by the rear end of the car. The tractor-trailer and the car came to rest in the median where they both burst into flames.
The driver of the tractor-trailer escaped serious injury, he was treated for back pain. All of the passengers in the automobile were killed. At this point there is no information available as to why the vehicle crossed the median. According to the Kentucky State Police as part of the investigation toxicology test will be done to determine if alcohol or anything else may have been a factor.
Cable barriers have gone up in several parts of the state already and reports show that there have been less fatalities as a result. I have to wonder if the presence of the barriers would have prevented this tragedy.
