The week of September 15 through September21 was deadly on Kentucky
roads. Statistics out of Frankfort, Ky indicate that seven people died
in seven different accidents. the fatalities occurred in Hancock,
Hopkins, Mason, Pike, Trimble, Union and Jackson Counties
Five of the crashes were motor vehicle accidents and four of the victims
were not wearing seatbelts. So far this year there have been 409 motor
vehicle fatalities on the roads of Kentucky. Of those 409 fatalities
254 of the victims were not wearing seatbelts.
There was one motorcycle fatality during this time period. The victim
involved was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. There
have been 70 motorcycle fatalitiies so far this year and of the 70
victims 43 were not wearing helmets.
There was also one ATV accident where the victim crashed into a barbed
wire fence. The victim was not wearing a helmet at the time and alcohol
use is suspected in this accident. This year the number of ATV
fatalities is 18 and 17 of those victims were not wearing helmets.
This year in Kentucky there have been a total of 545 fatalities on
Kentucky roads but that is dowm by 82 from 2007. Of the 545 fatalities
only 108 have been the result of alcohol use.
The week of July 28 through August 3 of this year was also a deadly week in Kentucky. There were
16 fatalities on Kentucky roads. Twelve of the 16 were motorvrhicle accidents, nine of the victims were not wearing seatbelts. Two were ATV accidents and neither of those victims were wearing helmets. One motorcycle acccident claimed a life, the victim was not wearing a helmet. There was also one pedestrian killed. In five of the accidents alcohol was suspected as a factor.
