Date: May 16, 2009
Location: Bourbon County Kentucky
Type: Trucking accident during a rain storm causes the death of Bourbon County equine artist.
Liz Pizzo, artist and former jockey, was killed when a truck hit her in Bourbon County Kentucky on Saturday morning. She was at her home on Jackstown Road when as she was getting her mail she was hit by a pick-up truck passing by. The side mirror of the truck hit her head causing blunt force trauma. Ms. Pizzo died later in the afternoon at University of Kentucky Medical Center.
Ms. Pizzo had been a jockey for several years and had retired seven years ago. Once she retired she developed a love for painting and began painting horses. The accident is being investigated by the Bourbon County Sherriff’s Department and few details have been released.
According to Ms. Pizzo’s husband the accident occurred during a rain storm. This is another example as to why it is so important to lower your speed and be more careful while driving in inclement weather. Slowing down and paying closer attention could potentially save lives.
