DUI Accident Severely Injures Pedestrian

As the holidays gets closer, drunk driving danger increases. Unfortunately many drivers will disobey traffic rules during this time of year.   A DUI accident happened yesterday at 34th and Del Park Terrace in Louisville, Kentucky involving a vehicle and pedestrian as stated by a police spokesman Dwight Mitchell.

According to police records, James R. Brown, 54-year-old of Louisville, was driving under the influence of alcohol and struck a pedestrian named Frank. This was confirmed by the residents in the area.  Frank walked up Del Park Terrace when Brown hit him while driving in the opposite direction.  Frank went through the whole windshield and was dragged halfway down the street.  Frank is on life-support at University of Louisville Hospital.  Mitchell said that Brown has been charged with drunk driving and assault in connection with the crash. According to arrest records Brown had a 0.171 percent blood-alcohol level, which is twice the legal limit.  Hopefully these charges don’t change to homicide and Frank recovers from this horrible pedestrian accident.

Louisville police hope to have zero fatal accidents in Jefferson County as it did last year during Thanksgiving.  Police are staging DUI patrols and stops throughout the metro Louisville area on the streets and interstates.

Safety is always a concern for pedestrians. Here are some tips for pedestrian safety:

  • It is getting darker earlier, so walk during earlier hours
  • Walk in well lit area
  • Wear bright or reflective clothing
  • Use crosswalks and sidewalks
  • Don’t walk alone especially if you are intoxicated

Don’t Drink and Drive.  And as pedestrian, follow the safety tips above and be alert at all times so that all will be well and safe on our Kentucky roads during this holiday seasons.

Wow 0.171 BAC is crazy. Coming from the insurance world, I fortunately hear this too often. I tell my clients, family and friend even the best insurance coverages won't protect you against someone hitting you out of no where. Be safe and follow the tips above.
