Decorated Louisville Officer Killed in a Bike Accident

TYPE:     Louisville Metro Police Officer Paul Pelgram was killed last Thursday when a SUV struck him while bicycling.

Distinguished Louisville Metro Police Officer Paul Pelgram died last Thursday when he was struck by a Hyundai SUV near Taylorsville Lake.  He was on Briar Ridge Road biking at about 9:45 a.m. when he was struck from behind.  Pelgram was flown to University Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky where he died shortly after 11:00 a.m.  The driver of the SUV has been identified as Daryl M. Fogel of Mt. Eden, Kentucky.

Officer Prlgram has been described as a jokester, an avid fisherman and always having an upbeat personality.  He loved his family and was loved by all who knew him.  He was a husband, father and son.  His father, Dave Pelgram, said "Our family is in a terrible time of grief."

He has been given a Distinguished Lifesaving Award for his heroic actions in a fire in 2008.  He reportedly ran into a burning building waking up the residents, saving everyone's life..
