Last week I posted an
article on my website about post traumatic stress disorder and car accident victims. In this article there are listed causes and symptoms of PTSD. It came as no surprise to me when I was doing my research that in the general public
car accidents are the leading cause of PTSD. PTSD is an anxiety disorder that can develop after a person is exposed to a traumatic event. During these events something horrible and frightening is happening and the person has a sense of helplessness. They may also feel like their life or the lives of others are in danger. If anyone has ever been in a car accident you know that is exactly what you experience.
My daughter and wife both have had a few car accidents in the past few years. Fortunately neither was hurt but both get nervous when they are in the car and another car gets too close or if they think another car is about to crash. A friend from church, Kenny Coomer, was in an accident and said that it took him a very long time before he was sure on coming cars were not crossing over into his lane. Another friend was hit in an intersection and severely injured, she still is anxious pulling into intersections.
If you have been in an accident and experience symptoms of PTSD you may want to consult your doctor to see if you are a candidate for treatment.
