Alabama Is Jumping On the Cell Phone Band Wagon

There are currently several states that ban the use of hand-held cell phones while driving.  Kentucky is not one of them, yet.  There is a bill before the Kentucky Legislature that would ban the use of handheld phones while driving.  I am personally all for the ban.

In Alabama the House Public Safety Committee approved a bill that would fine drivers for text messaging while driving.  This includes writing, sending and reading messages while driving. The fines would be $25 for a first violation, $50 for the second and $75 for each violation after that.  The committee did however kill the bill that would disallow the use of hand-held cell phones.  The bill now goes to the Alabama House where it will come to a vote.

I am for the bill that would ban the act of text messaging while driving.  I am also for banning the use of hand-held cell phones while driving.  I am also against any act that would put the driver at risk of causing an accident.  This includes putting on make-up, reading the paper and writing.  The list of distractions goes on.  Click here for a complete list of all states and their cell phone laws.
