Four Amish children die when buggy flips in Kentucky creek-Kentucky Fatal Accident Attorney
There was a very tragic incident that happened last February 24, 2011. An Amish family was travelling by a horse-drawn buggy carrying nine of its members in a downpour in the dark Thursday at about 8:30 p.m. The buggy flipped in a rain-swollen creek, which is normally a trickle but often floods during heavy rains, in Graves County, Kentucky, killing four children who were swept away in the rising waters.
Search and rescue crews found the bodies of 5-month-old Rosemary Wagler, 5-year-old Sarahmae Wagler and 8-year-old Samuel Wagler within a few hours of the wreck. They found the family’s cousin, 11-year-old Elizabeth Wagler, Friday morning.
All other family members in the buggy survived, as did the horse pulling the buggy.
Samuel Wagler, the father of Elizabeth, says his brother and sister-in-law took their six children out to eat and to call their grandfather who lives in Missouri. His daughter Elizabeth joined her cousins and planned to stay with the family for the night.
Dale Perry, an owner of Amish gallery in Lexington revealed some traits of Amish people. He said that the Amish shun modern technology, lack modern convenience and separate themselves from a modern world by choice. It even doesn’t surprise him because Wagler family might have not been aware of the weather situations. He was just so devastated for the loss of the Wagler family like so many others.
It was just so sad that their family outing lead to a tragic end. My sympathy and prayers go out to the Wagler family.
